  • Special ‘Blade Silver’ 570S Spider raised £725,000 at auction to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation, helping to create an AIDS-free future
  • Funds raised at the Argento Ball Auction help to provide young people with information about HIV, the means to test themselves and access to medical care
  • Car delivered personally to the winning bidder by Amanda McLaren, daughter of McLaren founder Bruce, at a Pure McLaren driving event they attended

A bespoke McLaren 570S Spider auctioned earlier this year at the Elton John Argento Ball has been presented to the successful bidder by Amanda McLaren, daughter of the company’s founder Bruce McLaren, at a Pure McLaren driving event in North America.

Having raised £725,000 – more than four times its recommended retail value – for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the stunning convertible was hand-finished in metallic ‘Blade Silver’ to honour the 25th anniversary of the charity foundation.

Funds raised at the Argento Ball, which took place at Elton John’s Berkshire home in the UK in June 2018, are helping to provide many young people with information about HIV, the means to test themselves and access to medical care, if required. More than 200,000 people have been infected with HIV in the last year alone and Sir Elton John commented, “We are thrilled with the success of the Argento Ball. Funds raised can make a real impact for our work with young people.”

The portfolio of additional features on the bespoke 570S Spider includes a Luxury Pack comprising power-adjust heated memory Sports Seats, power-adjust steering column, soft close doors and an 8-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Audio System. 10-Spoke Lightweight Wheels in Stealth finish, a Sports Exhaust, red brake calipers and seatbelts in MSO Defined Indian Red are also fitted.

Amanda McLaren, founder Bruce McLaren’s only child and a brand ambassador for McLaren Automotive, said: “Presenting this very special 570S Spider to the winner of the auction was a true honour, and we hope that they enjoyed the Pure McLaren driving experience. We are extremely proud to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation on its 25th Anniversary with our first donation, an exceptional amount of money that will contribute significantly to the care of those affected by HIV, creating education initiatives and helping to prevent new cases. “

The winning bidder was able to enjoy driving their new car during the Pure event at Thermal Club, in CA, USA. Part of the exclusive global Pure McLaren driving program, the event provided owners and prospective owners with the chance to experience the performance of McLaren sportscars and supercars in the controlled environment of a race track. Pure McLaren offers a range of experiences, ranging from a half day course with driving coaching sessions in a McLaren 570S or McLaren 720S, to a full day on a circuit in a McLaren owner’s personal car.

The 2018 Pure McLaren calendar will conclude with an event in Bahrain on Nov. 27-28. More information can be found at: http://cars.mclaren.com/experiences/pure-mclaren.

About 25 years of the Elton John AIDS Foundation
The Elton John AIDS Foundation’s mission to create an AIDS-free future. The Elton John AIDS Foundation, which was established in 1992, is one of the world’s leading international not-for-profit organisations working year-round to support those affected by HIV. We believe AIDS can be beaten and work alongside a range of local projects, organisations, government officials, celebrity patrons and brand partners to make this a reality. We measure our success by our ability to prevent HIV infection, provide treatment, end discrimination and drive social and political change.

Achievements to date include: reaching millions across 26 countries with the HIV information, support and care to save their lives and protect those they love; preventing almost a million babies from being born with the HIV virus; and helping to leverage more than £300 million in additional funding from governments and funding partners. We are proud to have played a part in expanding HIV treatment over the last quarter century from less than 300,000 patients to over 20 million people today. This has changed HIV from a virtual death sentence to a manageable condition. ejaf.org
